Cancer. And My Name Is Larry

Mmmmm take my hand. Come with me baby, to love land.

Let me show you my antiques.

The early 90’s was a fertile period for collectors in Palm Springs. The one that got away and that I will always regret was the gilded female nudes holding glass tops on a pair of end tables and matching coffee table. They were in the shape of the silhouettes one finds on a semi’s mud-flaps.

The one that didn’t get away was the zodiac clock. It straddles the line between tacky schlock and stunning period piece. It might have been in the disco pad of a 70’s cokehead or, given the locale, possibly a 60’s nudist swingers party (big hand is on the Scorpio!)

I bought it at the antique store on the corner of Palm Canyon and Tamarisk that is still there today. The same lady runs it although I don’t think she remembers me. She follows me around every time I’m there like I’m some kind of shoplifter. Maybe she does remember me.

The clock hung for years in the Jones Street apartment, somewhat awkwardly at first in the living room before finding a perfect spot in the dinning room. It then moved to my bedroom at the Winter Palace in Fort Wayne for a decade.

Now it has returned to Coachella, temporarily on the wall of my studio. It’s too hard to store and I wasn’t about to spend two days installing it in my antique booth only to haggle with some cheap skate customer who tells me it’s worth $100.

I’ve listed it on Chairish.com. I hope to find it a good home.

Until then: Float. Float on.

    1. I couldn’t resist. I had to go see what other things you have for sale. It appears that it has been sold. Congratulations!
